Eye Stye, also known as hordeolum is an infection on eyelid which resembles pimple or a boil. It is basically a red pus filled lump which can appear either outside of the eyelid or in the inner side of the eye lid. It can be caused due to staphylococcal bacteria, conjunctivitis, eye infections and lack of proper hygiene.

Some of the common symptoms of eye stye are; swelling, redness, pain, tenderness and uneasiness. These are later followed by a lump or pimple on the eyelid. It can cause swelling and watering of the eye. In some cases the person may suffer from difficult vision or fever. Pus formation takes place and once this pus is out, the person recovers from this ailment.

Home Remedies

There are several home remedies for eye stye which are simple to follow and easy to use. Some of the popular home remedies for hordeolum are:

1.

One of the most efficient home remedies for hordeolum is to wet a tea bag and put it on your eyes for the next ten to fifteen minutes. This tea bag will draw the sty and help in treating eye stye.

2. Use of coriander seeds and water is also equally beneficial in treating eye stye. All you need to do is boil two teaspoon of coriander seeds with water, allow it to cool and then wash your eyes with it three to four times daily.

3. Take a cup of water and mix two to three granules of alum in it. Wash your eyes with this mixture. This is one of the efficient home remedies for eye stye.

4. Take a gold ring and rub the stye few times with this ring daily. This will give you relief from the pain and help in treating eye stye.

5. Mix warm water and salt together. Allow it to cool. Now take a cotton pad and soak it into this mixture. Apply this cotton pad on your eyes and let it stay there for a minute. Now take another cotton pad and repeat this procedure few times.

6. We are all familiar with Johnson’s baby shampoo. All you need to do is mix this shampoo with water. Now take a cotton swab and dip it in this solution. Clean your eyelids with this cotton swab twice daily.

7. Take a hand towel and soak it in warm water. Squeeze and put it over your closed eyes. This will soothe the inflammation and provide relief from the pain.

8. Do not try to touch or squeeze the pus out of the stye. Touching or squeezing the stye will not do any good but instead make the condition worse.

9. Avoid any kind of eye makeup. Putting makeup on eyes will help the bacteria to spread creating further complications.

10. Drinking dandelion tea is also very helpful in treating eye stye. Consuming this tea helps in getting rid of those bacteria which may be causing eye stye.

11. In order to reduce inflammation you can try making a paste out of potato and then putting this paste in a clean piece of cotton cloth. Now externally wrap this cloth on the affected eye.

The above mentioned home remedies for eye stye are some of the most effective remedies and can be tried easily at home.

Currently, there is an increment in the number of people affected by dry eyes. Many a times, people ignore such kind of situation due to lack of time. The more you overlook this condition, the more there are chances that you suffer from dry eyes. Ultimately, if this condition is ignored, it may lead to complete loss of eyesight. At times, this may lead to anatomical damage of eyes as well.

Dry eyes can occur due to several reasons. The poor quality of tears is one of the most important reasons of all. Tears carry certain kinds of enzymes that help the eyes not to dry easily. Another enzyme called mucin is present in the tears, which retains the constant contact with the eyes. The main function of enzymes is to eradicate the excess of oil produced by the eyes. If any of these chemical changes are missing, they lead to complete dryness of eyes.

Whenever a particle enters your eyes, you feel so agitated and get utterly concerned about how to get rid of that unknown particle. This can also be one of the reasons of dry eyes. Another reason could be a burning sensation in eyes, sudden covering of eyes with dust particles that enable the person to view anything. These are just a few reasons that can cause dry eyes. Conversely, there is a much more brutal warning sign mentioned from all the above. This is loss in proper visualization due to a cloudy layer that covers the corneas exterior side. This layer encourages the growth of bacteria thus resulting in making the situation worse than before for the person.

Undergoing any kind of treatment for dry eyes should be effective enough for the person to stop his/her eyes from any sort of harm. This treatment includes repairing the tissues present in the eyes. This method of treating eyes is followed since ages in the medical field. Nevertheless, every artificial cure has its own merits and demerits. To begin with, eye drops are put in eyes, so that they act as a lubricant and thus, prevent the eyes from drying. In addition, synthetic tears are put in the eyes giving them more dry-free eyes. This treatment is very expensive and fails to be a successful one for many people.

Another treatment is discovered presently for treating dry eyes. There are undersized cavities present on the eyelids. They are accountable in transporting tears given out of the eyes to the nasal tube. When these channels get infertile, the tears run over the face. Thus, this leads the person to go ahead and get a proper treatment of dry eyes. There are many solutions for the problem of dry eyes. Instead of treating them, prevent your eyes from any kinds of problems.

Keeping the skin around your eyes bright and healthy can be difficult because of the appearance of dark circles under eyes. This is primarily caused by the leaking of red blood cells. When red cells leak to the surface layers of the skin, the red color of cells mingles with the color of thin skin.

Dark circles under eyes should be treated at a deeper level. If you want a better way of treating this problem, check out the following treatments:

1. Coffee grounds

Place left-over coffee grounds on a cheese cloth and wrap the cheese cloth around it. Tie it with a string. Soak it in warm water first and apply it on your eyes. Let it stay there for about 15 minutes.

When used topically, coffee grounds can stimulate healthier blood flow. This will prevent the leaking of red blood cells.

2. Exercise daily

Exercising can facilitate sweating.

When you sweat, your body purges out toxins that tend to slow down circulation. Exercising also improves circulation. At least 30 minutes of exercise in the morning can prevent and get rid of dark circles.

3. Use a good eye cream product

Not all eye creams out in the market can get rid of this skin problem. Most of them cannot penetrate deeper into the skin. You should look for a product that contains Eyeliss, Haloxyl and CynergyTK.

Eyeliss is an ingredient that can infuse natural peptides to your dermis. Natural peptides help plump up weak skin cells. This can also improve the thickening process of eye skin. Haloxyl is what reduces the haemoglobin content of red cells. Haemoglobin is what gives a red color to blood cells. By simply reducing the pigment of cells, dark circles can be reduced.

CynergyTK is an ingredient that has been taken from sheep wool. This ingredient can infuse functional keratin to the skin. Keratin is responsible for the production of collagen.

4. Drink fruit juices rich in Vitamin C

This vitamin is capable of preventing any kind of pigmentation problem in the skin. It can also improve pale dermis countenance so the dark circles under your eyes will become less visible.

Make sure you drink freshly-squeezed fruit juices instead of the processed ones. They contain natural sugar and fibers. The fibers can flush out harmful toxins in the body.

Make your eyes look brighter with the help of these tips. Also use these tips to avoid future eye skin problems from emerging.

In this world of Computers there arise a problem for humans, the most common problems are related to eyes, dryness of eyes etc. Medical science has done much research to cure those effects and the name Restasis came into picture, chemically known as “cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion”

Restasis® ophthalmic emulsion is indicated to increase tear production in patients whose tear production is presumed to be suppressed due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Increased tear production was not seen in patients currently taking topical anti-inflammatory drugs or using punctal plugs.

It was invented by Dr. Renee Kaswan, DVM, MS – Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, University of Georgia

Let’s have a look on its specifications
Important Safety Information: RESTASIS® Ophthalmic Emulsion should not be used by patients with active eye infections and has not been studied in patients with a history of herpes viral infections of the eye. RESTASIS® should not be used while wearing contact lenses. If contact lenses are worn, they should be removed prior to use. The most common side effect is a temporary burning sensation. Other side effects include eye redness, discharge, watery eyes, eye pain, foreign body sensation, itching, stinging, and blurred vision.

Nursing Mothers: Cyclosporine is known to be excreted in human milk following systemic administration but excretion in human milk after topical treatment has not been investigated. Although blood concentrations are undetectable after topical administration ofRestasis® ophthalmic emulsion, caution should be exercised whenRestasis® is administered to a nursing woman.

Pediatric Use: The safety and efficacy ofRestasis® ophthalmic emulsion have not been established in pediatric patients below the age of 16.

Geriatric Use: No overall difference in safety or effectiveness has been observed between elderly and younger patients.
Adverse Reactions: The most common adverse event following the use ofRestasis® was ocular burning (17%). Other events reported in 1% to 5% of patients included conjunctival hyperemia, discharge, epiphora, eye pain, foreign body sensation, pruritus, stinging, and visual disturbance (most often blurring).
Dosage And Administration: Invert the unit dose vial a few times to obtain a uniform, white, opaque emulsion before using. Instill one drop ofRestasis® ophthalmic emulsion twice a day in each eye approximately 12 hours apart.Restasis® can be used concomitantly with artificial tears, allowing a 15 minute interval between products. Discard vial immediately after use.

SUPPLY: Restasis® ophthalmic emulsion is packaged in single use vials. Each vial contains 0.4 mL fill in a 0.9 mL LDPE vial; 32 vials are packaged in a polypropylene tray with an aluminum peel able lid. The entire contents of this tray (32 vials) must be dispensed as one unit.

Are your eyes tired? Do you keep rubbing your eyes all the time? This makes your eyes receptive to the germs. Here are some ways that you may adopt to keep your eyes in a good condition.

Precautions for Weary Eyes

Some practical measures are to avoid over working your eye muscles. One must not watch too much of television or work in front of the computer for a long time as glares from the screen might hamper one’s eye. Everything must be moderate and not extreme.

Daily protection and safeguarding from germs keep the eye cool and relaxed. Make sure that you relax your eyes when they are over worked. When dealing with chemicals one must undertake extra precautions so that the chemicals which are harmful may not disturb it. Rinsing the eyes regularly keeps it free from germs, dust, and pollutants. If one is a smoker one must always do so to save the eye from the smoke.

A bath in the sea is perfect for cleansing, but one may also use eye or saline drops to keep the eyes clean. Avoid working your eyes in soft light because that can lead to squint or cause wrinkles and dark circles under your eye making you look aged. Allow oxygen and fresh air to pass through and massage the eyes with cold presses, gels and cover ups.

Eye Exercises to Cure Tired Eyes

Proper circulation and blood flow is extremely essential for the eyes. Regular exercising can help in this. Convalescence and relaxation both can help greatly in curing weary eyes.

Exercises that can Help You

Firstly, standing straight and looking in front, and chin up concentrate your eyes on the floor and then on the ceiling without moving the head. Repeat this side by side at will.

Secondly, make anticlockwise and clockwise movements with your eye balls in a continuing spherical pattern.

Lastly, observe the atmosphere you are in and then try recollecting what you saw in your mind. This is a good brain puzzle and a useful way of increasing the power of observation.

After exercising one can relax the eyes with cool cucumbers or put creams like avocado to give a soothing and calm effect.

Eye twitching can run the gamut from a minor, occasional annoyance to a serious impediment in your daily life. While it is rare, eye twitching can be a sign of a more serious underlying problem. More often, it stems from diet or lifestyle issues, including stress and fatigue. Eye twitching can also be hereditary. Once the underlying cause has been determined, there are many ways to stop your annoying eye twitching.

Causes of Eye Twitching

In most cases eye twitching is not a sign of a life-threatening or serious health disorder, but that does not mean that your eye twitching should go unaddressed or that you can rule out the possibility without further investigation. Causes of eye twitching include:

Vitamin deficiency
Stress
Fatigue
Eye strain
Sleep deprivation
Too much screen time on the computer or television
Allergies
Certain medications and withdrawal from medications
Caffeine
Alcohol
Physical exertion
Eye irritation
Pinched nerve
Bell’s palsy
Parkinsonism (similar to Parkinson’s Disease)
Dystonia
Tourette syndrome
Other neurological disorders
Genetics
When to Seek Help for Eye Twitching

It is not unusual to have a minor eye twitch at some point in your life.

However, if minor twitching does not go away on its own within a few weeks you should talk to your ophthalmologist.

If you experience severe eye spasms, such as twitching that causes your eye to close completely or a twitch that is accompanied by other symptoms, you should seek help right away.

Symptoms such as drooping eye lid, twitching in other parts of the face, or a swollen eye, along with your twitching may indicate a serious health problem.

If you have recently been in a car accident, fallen, or experienced some other physical trauma talk to your doctor about the possibility of a pinched nerve, even if you were not noticeably injured.

Of course, if your eye twitch is interfering with your vision or your ability to perform your normal daily tasks, you should talk to your ophthalmologist about solutions.

Treatment for Eye Twitching

The majority of eye twitching can be overcome with changes to your diet and lifestyle. This would include correcting nutritional deficiencies, getting more rest, reducing stress, and good computer habits such as taking a break from the screen every half hour.

If your eye twitch is caused by medications you must take, and underlying neurological condition, or other factors that cannot be resolved by diet and lifestyle changes, talk to your ophthalmologist about other treatments.

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are the most common treatment for eye twitch and have proven to be a safe and effective treatment for most people. For more severe eye twitching, your ophthalmologist may recommend surgery.

“Pink Eye” is one of the most common ocular conditions patients suffer from. “Pink Eye” or more formally know as conjunctivitis comes in three major forms- bacterial, viral and allergic. Determining which specific type of conjunctivitis a patient has is essential to the proper management and treatment of the condition.

Bacterial conjunctivitis is an infectious condition usually associated with poor ocular hygiene. Whether it is a dirty contact lens or an unwashed hand, bacterial conjunctivitis is usually caused by getting something in your eyes. Tell tale signs may include redness, matting of the eye lashes, and ‘goopy’ discharge. This is an infectious condition and needs to be treated with an antibiotic.

Viral conjunctivitis is usually caused by someone rubbing their eyes after having contact with someone or something associated with having the common cold or flu.

Hallmark signs of viral conjunctivitis include redness, inflammation, and a watery or clear discharge. Supportive therapy with artificial tears and good ocular hygiene are the best and fastest ways to let viral ‘pink’ eye run its course.

The final and probably most common version of pink eye is allergic conjunctivitis. This is most common during the spring and fall. Allergic conjunctivitis has a trademark itching component along with redness, irritation, and tearing. There are many types of prescription ocular drops to help get people through this rough time/season.

All three forms of conjunctivitis have similar properties and symptoms, but with careful testing and monitoring can be differentiated. So the next time anyone in your family comes down with ‘pink eye’ make sure to get them to your family optometrist for the proper diagnosis and management.

If you are a reptile lover, getting a red-eyed frog is one of the best creatures you can buy, as they are equally fascinating as any other pet if you choose to take proper care of them. They can prove to be an excellent pet but there are few things that you need to keep in mind ones you bring them in your home. It is very important for you to take care of them properly because ones they get ill it will be troublesome for you to get them back to normal. So make sure you prevent them from everything that can be dangerous for them. There are some things that you can do and which are easy to follow so that you can be assured about the health of your red eyed tree frog. Very first thing, you need to take care is of the housing of your red eyed tree frog, you need to make sure that the cage is big enough for red eyed frog to live properly.

It is recommended to choose a taller cage so that they can be comfortable in it and since they are tree frogs, it will give them enough space to move around. Also, another important thing that you need to do is to get the right height and the width of the cage and make sure the cage you buy should be made of plexi enclosure or it can also be of glass material.

It is important to choose the right material in order to make sure that there is enough preservation of high humidity level, which is imperative if you wish to enjoy with your pet for long time. When you choose a cage, you should always keep in mind that the cage should be at least half screen so that there can be sufficient ventilation in it. Second most important thing for you is to take care that the tank of the frog needs to be substrate as it is one of the most important thing for the base on which the pet lives. You can anything to substrate as if you can use a moist paper or a complex perception. Other than this, you also need to take care of the vegetation of your red eyed frog which is very important factor in order to maintain his well being.

Also because of the fact that these frogs are arboreal, it would be important for you to add up trees in the cage because it is important for their survival. It’s up to you to either choose plastic plants or the real ones in the cage or also make sure the plants are clean away from anything like pesticides. When it comes to feeding the frog, you need to feed them 4-5 live crickets every 2 days, these crickets do not have any meat in them and they are full of D3 powder, which is very helpful for their growth. In order to improve the life of your frog it is important for you to take care of their hygiene and growth and keep them away from any bacteria’s and toxins.
Most eye injuries are preventable. Our faces are designed to protect our eyes. There are many causes of eye injuries such as acid, rubbing your eyes, sunscreen, aerosol exposure, corneal abrasions, traumatic iritis, hyphemas, lacerations, and ultraviolet keratitis. Chemical exposures and burns can cause serious damage to the eyes and make the eye become swollen. Corneal abrasions are originated by being poked in the eye, which causes teary eyes and sensitivity to light. Traumatic iritis is formed by getting hit in the eye and it may cause deep pain in the eye. Hyphemas cause the eyes to become blurry and they occur from objects hitting you in the eye such as a baseball. Lacerations come from sharp objects and decrease vision. Ultraviolet keratitis is a result from sunburn and causes redness and pain in the eye.
A lot of times symptoms from eye injuries only stay present for a couple of days and then they are gone. If the symptoms still exist after a few days, medical help should be sought out. Eye injuries can cause permanent damage to the eye if they are not treated right way. Many people think that if they get a cut on the eye it is not a big deal; however, if it gets infected it can damage eyesight. Doctors use a special drop called fluorescein in the eye to check for injuries. Slit lamps are like microscopes that help eye doctors be able to see the damages more closely. X-rays are less likely to be used because most eye injuries do not require the use of one. Eye injury treatments vary depending on the intensity of the injury. Washing out the eye is common for chemical exposures and most other incidences. The biggest way to prevent getting eye injuries is to wear safety goggles when needed and not to rub your eyes.
